What is “Agency”?
An “Agency” is a company that provides subscription services that are independent of
the owner of the publication. Everyone has received the mail offers of magazines at a
discount. When the Agency forwards the subscription to your publication, you will want
to record the fact that it is an Agency payment.
There are dozens of Agency companies out there . . .a few of them are listed here:
- EBSCO
- FAXON
- DA INFOR SERVICES
- POPULAR SUB SERVICES
- EVA SUB SERVICES
To name just a few.
Almost all publications track the agencies. We recommend simply entering the name of
the “Agency” in the How Paid field when you enter the subscription. You can also enter
the code number at the same time. However, experience has shown that it is almost
never used for anything.
Queries from customers about Agency subscriptions should be referred to the Agency
for answers.
Most publications don’t even send reminder notices to Agency customers, leaving that
task up to the Agency, who are getting revenue from the subscription, and thus should
be responsible for the reminders and follow up.
